Easy Homemade BBQ Sauce (refined sugar free)
So this weeks recipe is another sauce! Inspired by my summer of eating a low Fodmap diet (google it if you dont know what that means), I decided to create my own BBQ sauce from scratch, that had no onion, garlic, or refined sugar. You can always add onion/garlic powder if you want more flavor, and are able to eat it. The reason I love this recipe so much is that its sweet and also savory. A lot times BBQ sauce from the store can be too sweet, and not enough tang, smokiness, or spice. On the other end of the spectrum, it can be the opposite, where it is too smoky/spicy, that it blows your tastes buds away and burns off your nose hairs! I like a balance between the two. Enter: this recipe.

I personally prefer my sauces and condiments without refined sugar as it is better for your health. One thing to remember is, something that can accidentally get overlooked, is to watch out for the ketchup you’re using. It should preferably have no refined sugar either, aka no high fructose corn syrup. Sadly many ketchups on the shelves have corn syrup in them, but there are ones that exist on the market thankfully that don’t have any (my fav brands are Primal Kitchen, Thrive Market brand, and FODY).

Another reason to make this recipe, is that it takes only 5 minutes to throw all the ingredients in a medium saucepan, and then all you have to do is simmer it uncovered for 20-30 minutes, and you’re done! It couldn’t be easier. Lastly, you let it cool, pour it into a glass jar, and store it in your fridge!
BBQ sauce is an extremely versatile condiment and can be used in so many different ways. It can be put on so much more than just ribs and wings.
